I was some time ago intrigued by this question, why I work at night; all night long up till the sunlight find its way into my home. why doesn't I will to work in broad day light?... well I later settled in for this that I can just work at night and the fact that I am nocturnal person, and was pretty okay with it. The things worsened parent’s friends everyone just started bugging me, why the hell do I work late into the night. I was simply stumped when a close aunt just tried to examine me for the symptoms of VAMPIREs (Fuck You Twilight Saga!)

And I set out onto the search to the answer to the question, why the hell can’t I work in the morning or the afternoon or in the evening?

I dunno whether I can answer this in this post, but just will try to give you brief Idea, how this all works:

To start with, I am on my laptop the whole night minus Facebook or games, I am mostly programming or surfing something or the other, it’s like 70:30. So the question becomes why programmers work late in the night?... and yes that there the answer, all programmers work in the night, Google Code Jam happens in night, some IIT conducts coding challenges in the night, almost every college in US, has this Night coding league, Facebook hosts its own coding nights... Hell yeah!

So what so special about coding at night, what I think happens is:

  1. "Programmers are machines that turn caffeine into code." that I think is true, people, scientist, students everyone researched on it, and came to the same conclusion, its trendy to work at night.
  2. Zero Disturbance: at my home, everyone's at their work in the morning, so my parents complain why not working in the morning instead... Well for them... why dun you consider, even the salesman, the other troubling vendors and every one carrying hooplah is also at work, and they never mind disturbing a household, they will ring the bell even if the door is locked (Dare not ask me how I know that)
  3. A research says, a tired brain in more efficient at solving problems, that is why great ideas come when you’re at problem, ever seen a relaxed person inventing (read ideating ) something?
  4. another research says, bright screens keeps you awake and makes you feel less tired, that means, imagine you worked throughout the day, and are tired, so when you come to bed, and pick up your books to study for your exams, you will simply doze off, but if you turn on your laptop, then you will forget about getting tired till 3AM or even 5 in some cases. Combined with the previous hypothesis, this becomes a deadly combination, you are tired (you're brain is working at maximum performance) and you cannot sleep (the bright light won’t let you!), so you're solving every problem out there and programming the shit out of your laptop!
  5. The last and the final reason I think is, you're not bound by limits, in the daytime you will be watching the time, again and again so you do not miss out an appointment or some important work at the bank, or any fucking thing, doesn't concerns much. But timelines are not good for result oriented solving. in the night, the next thing you can imagine is, you have to sleep, and that not much of a disturbance or timeline

That’s it guys pack up, that why I work at night, so next time you kick your butt and pop that question to me or to anyone else, better read this first, and be it point specific!

Next Post: the Balmer Curve and its effect on programming faster or slower!

Cheers Guys!
