This post is in continuation to this post here where I explain how to get the Palm Pixi Plus, GSM version to work properly on Indian Networks.

Yeah so all is well with my superb value for money phone, the Palm Pixi Plus, but there are some errors, that to managing defects I had to cover up before using the Phone perfectly. As soon as it arrived, and it was only day 2 the phone was in my hands, and the error was that when kept in the pocket, the phone was turned off, I was in the gym that day when I discovered that, after switching it on and completing my sets, by that time the phone was off again. First I wondered that it might be that the lock screen became irresponsive, or something, but it repeated, repeated again...

Back from the Gym I was scrounging the Internet for the cause and solution of the same. The problem is that while manufacturing palm created a battery pack slightly smaller than the slot it fits in. The result is, the battery moves and causes voltage variations, causing either Screen Flicker in the Palm Pixi or a Total shutdown.

The Solution?

Obviously I would not be asking you to buy a new battery, but we will need to provide some sort of packing in the space vacant so that it does not moves away. There are two approaches to get this done.

  1. Temporary Approach: Just tear of a slit from the newspaper roughly 10cmx2cm, roll it to form a tube with its height 2cm. now when you are inserting the battery, our aim is to provide a much more tighter contacts between the phone pins and battery terminals, so while pushing the battery in, also insert the tube at the battery's rear (opposite to the connector), this can be hard but it’s for sure a nice way. The problems you might face are that if you want to change the SIM often, then it will be a messy job.
  2. Permanent Approach: instead of paper slit, paste in a piece of double sided tape, inside the battery compartment (opposite to the connector pins)... this is simple, after discovering this Palm used a similar approach and inserted a piece of foam as remedy to models which came in for repair.

Ironically the same problem is faced by the Palm Pre too, and is solved using the same method, over here above you see the foam attached by the Palm service technicians.

Hope that helps,

Cheers!
