For those who are not willing to go through the entire post. The gist is you need to reset your router, especially if you are on the MTNL network, else just comment, I will try to figure out yours. Just Reset and re configure, you will be back online in no time. No Anti-Virus, No ANti-Malware or any other crappy software will help you out!

hi,

First of All, Happy New Year Guys!... (I still feel, New Year is just a concept, and nothing ground braking, its just the creators of calender could have done that in any month, more of that later...)

I was shocked... two websites... gone... while surfing in the same session... what happened to the?... God Knows!...

SITE#1: SnapDeal.com It is very popular deal site, dunno about other countries or its existence there, but here in India, its a hit.

Weird thing: its showing adsense and showing its own Ads

SITE#2: Torrentz.eu A very popular torrent search engine, I visit this almost 10 times a day!

Weird thing: Its showing symptoms similar to SnapDeal.

What's going on here on the internet, is it hack, the hosting is gone... DDoS attacks, what?... I posted onto SnapDeal's Facebook wall, but dunno what exactly happened. Hope there is some solid reasoning for it!

UPDATE (JAN 1, 2011 2.30PM):

Over at the WarriorForum, many user speculated, that I was a victim of Browser Hijack, but I do not suspect, because....

  1. My system is clean
  2. all computers on my network are showing the same
  3. the virus if it happened to be, wouldn't have been so powerful enough to hijack all the browsers, all OSs... man this would be crazy...

I suspect, its something in my ISPs network....

UPDATE (JAN 1, 2011 4.15PM):

A user at facebook, Yogesh Pandey, shared similar results, but he claims he has it the same way using MTNL (my ISP) and AirTel Data Pack. But he adds it was over soon and it is working fine.

Screen: Yahoo gone too

UPDATE (JAN 1, 2011 4.30PM): Another Symptom seen... the router (DNA-A212) seems to be unresponsive, it's passwords have been automatically changed, to something unknown. To which Yogesh agrees, but the thing which could not be understood is that the problem also occurs while accessing from a Mobile phone using Airtel Data. Weird!... Planning to reset the router, might help!...

UPDATE (JAN 1, 2011 5.15PM):

  1. After the router reset, the websites are working fine on the desktop connected using cables, but not on my laptop.
  2. The IP address to which these websites are redirecting is 69.167.176.227

UPDATE (JAN 1, 2011 5.50PM): Issues Resolved... Router Reset+Caches cleansed... everything back to normal... Still curious to know what or who kicked this.
