Thanks for your blog and advise on the PALM PIXI PLUS.

I keep coming back to this blog for answers on the PALM PIXI PLUS. I’ve done some basic checks on the PIXI PLUS I bought a week ago.
1. It connects to postpaid BSNL Cellone 2G and shows it as Cellone on the top left. I even used a BSNL 3G SIM with voice (no data) which shows BSNL mobile on the screen and makes calls like 2G. .
2. I did not have a data plan so I did not see 3G or E or whatever on the top right.
3. I could make and receive calls through the emergency call option but cannot go beyond the Palm Profile  Welcome Screen .
4. I even downloaded the appropriate AT&T 1.4.5 webdoctor and doctored the phone. It came back to the same status as above.
5. For creating the Palm Profile I guess I must have a data plan. Have to try with a BSNL 3G SIM, but if it does not work, will Vodafone or any other SIM with data plan allow me to create the palm profile from India. …?
Kindly suggest. I am stuck at the Palm Profile Page.

Solution:

1. I have updated before that the Palm Pixi cannot configure, BSNL or MTNL (as far as I know) data connection, becuase both the providers tend to use a proxy service with user id and passwords, which palm wont allow. even after activate it using palm profile, you would not be able to use it. (I could not!). But, the pixi detects Vodafone data connection easily, so just borrow your friends Vodafone sim card (or even buy a new one, costs Rs. 30 with talktime of Rs. 30), make sure Vodafone Live is activated and is working on other phones. Just boot up the Palm Pixi with vodafone and wait. Once the data connection is made, you will see “E” (stands for EDGE ) on the top. You are good to go, start by filling in your details and try saving your profile. If it does not saves, try again, within 2-3 tries, it would be done. IT WOULD NOT WORK IF THE PHONE IS STOLEN, BECAUSE THE PALM PROFILE IS BINDED TO IMEI NUMBER AND WOULD BE BINDED TO THE PREVIOUS USER.
2. ByPass the activation. Follow this exclusive guide: https://developer.palm.com/content/resources/develop/developing_on_an_unactivated_device.html and run the “Activation Bypass Tool“. But be aware that, first the scope of services will be very limited, until you create a Palm Profile (which now can be done over the wifi) secondly if the phone is stolen, again, this wont work.

The thing you should be aware about is, that Data on BSNL/MTNL 3G might never run on this device (if it does please inform me too!). Hope this helped solve your query!
