I know I have been pretty much delayed in updating posts, but something, about which I am going to update later, is keeping me pretty much occupied, so I do not think or expect of you that you will be able to figure out how to patch the OS or install new apps, without any intro to it.

Now here is the piece of news, Hackers from Precentral, WebOSInternals and many other forums have come together to develop this black market of apps for the WebOS, the apps here are classy, and patches make your pixi/pixi plus/pre any webOS device, much more productive and useful.

There is an app called preware, which is capable of on-board installation of patches, but by default this app cannot be installed straight away. This procedure is equivalent of Rooting of Android or Jailbreak in iPhone, so you can call it "Rooting Your Pixi" or "Jail Break your Pixi"

The preware app automatically gains access to your SU (super user) privileges. So here it goes, the simplest hacking of Palm Pixi or Palm Pre.

  1. Click Here to Check Your JAVA Version: if it says the following,:

Verified Java Version

Congratulations!

You have the recommended Java installed (XX.XX.XX).

You are good to go, else UPDATE YOUR JAVA, BEFORE CONTINUING.

  1. Download the needed tool, called the WebOS Simple Install: [there is an attachment  to this post at the end of this post and before the comments ]
  2. Activate the Developer Mode in your Phone, Now this is pretty Simple to get done, two methods available:
    1. Method 1 (Long One): Devs of the WebOS dunno why they used this old Konami code, but this works. the magic code goes like this:

upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart

Just start typing it and it will open the universal search and give you something like this:

    1. Method 2 (Shorter):Use this simple code, better than using upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart, simple na:

webos20090606

Just start typing it and it will open the universal search and give you something like this:

    1. Next Step: Click the Developer Mode App and switch it ON in the next screen, like this:

  1. Bravo, if you are done with that, you are through with what many Palm WebOS device Owners Couldn't, Now you just need to connect your phone to your laptop/desktop where we just completed the Java Check and downloaded that JAR file, after connecting select "Just Charge" on the screen, and you are ready for the next step!
  2. After you have connected the, the phone in step 4, just fire up the app you downloaded in step 2, the best part it this tool will automatically scan for the connected device and you are done, but before that it will check if NOVACOM drivers exist or not, if they do not exists, it will be downloaded automatically, and the phone will be recognized as a NOVACOM device.
  3. The app looks something like this:

[caption id="attachment_415" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="WebOSQuickInstall"]WebOSQuickInstall[/caption]

  1. select the Icon showing a globe symbol, it will do some updating and download latest file, and show you this screen:

[caption id="attachment_416" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="WebOSQuickInstall"]WebOSQuickInstall[/caption]

  1. Search for Preware and hit install, you are done.

What will preware do?

well using the webOS quick install you can install all the applications mentioned there, and I will be updating about one app, every day, which I have downloaded and tested, along with their pros and cons, preware will allow you to install all of these apps without your laptop/desktop, thus making it available via wifi or data network, just make sure you keep the Developer Mode on.

Enjoy!

Cheers
