Palm Pixi Plus – Getting It to Work In India

As I posted earlier here, I bought a new Palm Pixi Plus from DealsAndYou.com and… Please read that thread…

DAY1: Problem 1

Yeah I enjoyed the slick and smooth interface, connected it to my wifi, checked my mails and browsed some pages, and there it was, I realized I was missing something…. Oh Yeah… No Face book?… you must be kidding me, then and there I ran to the App Catalog, ran it… and it kept on glowing for about a minute or so, but to my horror, the App said, something went wrong, and I understood, that was a phone bypassed with activation patch from precentral or webos internals.

Just worried what can be done, and I suddenly realized that there was this small “E” symbol on the top, which meant the phone had automatically configured the Internet connection on Vodafone IN (waoh!, that’s a brilliant first impression, I am impressed…). So I figured out, that it must be something like registering again or something.

So follow up the simple guide as follows (might not work on data providers which use proxies like MTNL, BSNL, etc)

Go to “Device Info”.
Click “Reset Options”.
The phone will reset to as it was from factory, let it start, and wait to the welcome screen.
Welcome Screen will ask you for your info to create your palm profile, and will not work until your phone is on the network.
Let it configure the data connection, do not start until you see the “E” on the top.
Once done, just keep your fingers crossed and fill out the details.
It might not happen on the first try, but give it more tries, mine happened on the second try, and it was perfect then. (In case you are unable to get the palm profile created using the phone, use this thread on Palm Blog and bypass it, the phone will be as it arrived to you.)
Once done, you will be able do all sorts of things with you palm, like downloading apps from the app catalog and registering your accounts, plus have your phone backups online with the palm servers.

also i did reset it with restart option, there is no e or hv sign

  okay this seems like it will require custom APN settings, the thing I don’t get is, if operators like Vodafone and Airtel can provide networks such that their internet gets automatically configured, why can’t idea, mtnl, bsnl do so. I can’t be of much help here.

Is this phone sim locked so like iphone we have to jail break it or some thing like that ??
I have Vodafone sim card so when i get my phone can i directly access my phone feature like calling, email, push mail, sms, mms etc

  It’s not locked as such, you just need to activate it, without which you will not be able to use AppCatalog and some other services.

Whether App Catalog works in India for Pixi Plus using Vodafone SIM. I use Docomo and not able to access app catalog/ update. Others working fine for me.

  Hi Amar. I just got the phone a few minutes ago. I put in my Idea sim but don’t have internet since its my office number. now the phone is asking for internet APN and all that stuff. How do i get it started???

    Hi Tarun,
    If you see Edge symbol at top right. It means you can use internet and change network settings. If not, Insert Vodafone/Airtel SIM, you can see Edge symbol.Click call button and then click network name at top left corner. Goto preferences –> Network –> Manual settings. Change APN and save it. If not able to save it, try Setup anyway.Shutdown and Swap SIM to Idea. Probably you can use internet now.

      Thanx for the reply. I found out on a page somewhere on this very site that i could create profile using a Vodafone sim & did exactly the same. The phone is running now :)
      The bad part is that its just a day old and starting to hang a bit sometimes already. Is that common? coz the phone is really slow. M using Idea now with no gprs but what to do when i have to use internet in future????

  The AppCatalog works fine in India, if the App Catalog is not working fine for you, that simply means that the phone has been started by Activation ByPass. You need to activate your device, using your Palm Profile (or create one). As mentioned in the same post you are reading, you need to “reset your device” and you will land on palm profile page. here you can create a new profile because you already have internet (E symbol) working.

I have a CDMA connection (No SIM) of Reliance on Palm Pixi Plus. My question is that you mentioned reset, but did not mention which reset? Hard Reset (Full erase?)
